Arua. September 11, 2012.
The poor performance of pupils in the P.L.E mock exams in Arua Municipal has been attributed to the incompetence of teachers.

Speaking during teachers’ conference on P.L.E mock results on Saturday, the chairman Arua Municipal Academic Board, Mansur Ramadan blamed the teachers for not believing in themselves and their incompetence citing an example of a teacher who applied for marking and failed to answer English examinations as a pre- test for Markers.

The center coordinating tutor for Arua municipal council, Loice Andema said the poor results exactly reflect the weakness of the district, teachers and all stakeholders in the education sector.

She said there is a lot of commitment by teachers in completing the syllabus but the poor results indicate that something is lacking which must be fixed before the forthcoming final P.L.E exams.

On the official release of the mock results, the Principal Education officer Arua  Municipal council Joachim Ozimati said the general performance was not very good, with the same private schools leading. Out of 1985 students who sat for mock in 21 schools, 37 passed in Division 1 which gives a percentage of 1.86% ,270 in Division 2, with 13.6%,147 in Division 3 with 7.40 %  and 327 in Division 4 1with 6.4% while 85 did not sit for the Mock. Over 50% of the students got grade U which he said has been translated in Division I, come the finals and these are among the total failures.

The best performing schools were Christ the King primary school passing over 99.9% with 10 in Division 1, 37 in Division   2, 2 in Division 3 and 2 in division 4 with a total of 51 students, followed by Bright Horizon with 97.5% with 7 in Division 1,13 in Division 2,9 in Division 3,6 in Division 4 and 6 in U with a total of 36 students ,the Third was Corner stone primary school 96% passing in division 1,30 in Division 2,8 in Division 3,6 in Division 4 and 2 in U with a total of 53 pupils.

The worst performing schools were Najjah Islamic primary with no pupils in Div 1,2,3  3 in Division 4 and 51 in U with a total of 57 constituting  7.7%,Arua parents with no pupils from Div 1 to 3,4 pupils in Div 4 and 77 in U with a total of 98,4.1%.

The least school was Asuru primary with no grade 1 to 3.2 in Division 4 and 47 in U,4 in X with a total of 53 students 3.80 %.

The best performed subjects were English, followed by Mathematics,SST and Science was the worst.

The municipal inspector of schools, Mr Ombere Raymond said it is unfortunate that the private schools are the best performing schools which he said translates what is going in the schools.

Ombere said the government is pumping money in schools through the UPE but the results are showing negative.

He however concluded that there is still time to improve and this needs a lot of Commitment and tasked the P7 teachers to be focused, concentrate seriously and revise with the pupils from lower primary and give necessary tips for the learners.

There has been a drastic improvement in results of schools within Arua Municipality since 2009 according to records, in 2009, the performance was 7.6%, In 2010  it  rose to 9.1% and last year it was 10.9 % and this year the target is 20 % according  to the Principal Municipal Education officer.
