The police on Thursday blocked the
Member of Parliament for Obongi county Kaps Hassan Fungaroo from addressing a
press conference from Arua Airfield.
It was not clear why the police took a
move to stop Fungaroo from addressing the media, but according to Nasucha the
one of the police officers who claimed he was working under instructions from
what he called orders from above forcefully dragged MP Fungaroo out of the
airfield.
Nasucha demanded Fungaroo to move out
of Arua and address the media from Obongi claiming Arua is not his area of
operation.
Fungaroo in an emotional response said
the police should stop misusing their positions to disrupt the programs
contrary to the public order management law. He says expressing his views to
the media is a fundamental right which the police must respect.
According to Fungaroo, he has received
death threats from the security agencies over his bold representation to
articulate issues affecting the locals in West Nile region which has become a
source of insecurity for him.
Initially MP Fungaroo arranged to
brief the media on a case where the Pastoral Nomads dragged him and the locals
of Obongi to court over the recent eviction.
End.
